The poultry industry is one of the most important economic sectors in the world today. Chicken meat and eggs are one of the important and cheap sources of healthy protein needed by the human body. Therefore, in the whole world and especially in countries that are below the poverty line or do not have a high level of income, chicken meat is the best source of food that can play an important role in providing food security.

The existence of mass production capacity and facilities, complementary and coordinated value chain, receiving the final product in the shortest time, the need for healthy food, the cheap price of poultry products and the possibility of investment and employment are among the important factors that make this industry the attention of developing countries. progress and continues to attract global investors.

In Afghanistan, in the last two decades, with financial assistance from the international community, the Afghan government, and private investment, about ten thousand poultry farms have started to operate. Still, considering the growing need for meat and egg consumption in the country, it can be said that the domestic production of meat and eggs does not meet the needs of domestic consumption.

In addition to these geographical conditions, the capacity of human resources and other opportunities show that Afghanistan is the most suitable platform for the growth and development of the poultry sector. The value chain of chicken meat in Afghanistan includes six chains, and there are good opportunities for investment in all these chains.

Chicken seed: Although Afghanistan is an agricultural country and has the ability to produce chicken seed, it imports about 96,472,700 US dollars of chicken seed annually, which can be solved by Contract Farming; That is, farmers can contract with farmers to plant and produce items needed by farmers. This sector adds a new capacity to the country’s agriculture.

Sperm eggs: The most basic chain in the chain of chicken meat is sperm eggs, in Afghanistan, only 15 factories operate in this area, and about 90% of domestic consumption is imported from Pakistan and Iran.
Production of chickpeas: In the production of chickpeas, we produce 14% of our domestic consumption and import about 35,510,996 US dollars.

Meat production: The farms that were built to produce chicken meat have the ability to produce 73% of the domestic needs and 27% of the domestic consumption of chicken meat worth 167,658,473 US dollars is still imported from other countries. This remaining 27% is the best field for investment.

Edible eggs: 611 factories operate in the egg production sector, producing 1,168,000,000 egg testicles; But our need is 1,600,000,000 testicles and eggs per year. The value of egg imports per year reaches 28,366,106 US dollars.

Slaughterhouse and processors: It is a new requirement of the poultry industry in the country, and there is at least an investment opportunity to establish four slaughterhouses and processors in four economic zones of the country.
Currently, more than 8,1041 tons of our compatriots have been provided employment in this sector, and more than 105,000 tons of our compatriots are working indirectly in this sector.

In general, the value chain of chicken meat in Afghanistan has the capacity to invest tens of millions of US dollars, which on the one hand has led to the growth of the poultry industry and the achievement of true self-sufficiency in this industry, and on the other hand, it has created thousands of jobs in the country.
