The number of flood victims has increased by 75% compared to last year in Afghanistan, according to OCHA

34 news; The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Afghanistan (OCHA) has said that the number of flood victims has increased by 75% in Afghanistan compared to 2021.

OCHA said that during this year, floods have killed more than 250 people, while last year this figure was 147 people.

OCHA added that the United Nations together with its humanitarian partners continued to provide emergency aid to the flood victims and so far, 85,000 people have benefited from vital needs, which include food, tents, provision of health services, distribution of health aid, supply of drinking water, and others.

The United Nations has also added that by the end of June, about 23 million people have benefited from the humanitarian aid of international organisations throughout Afghanistan.

The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has emphasised that by the end of this year, it will help 22.1 million people in Afghanistan.

The United Nations had asked for 4.4 billion dollars to deal with the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. However, donor countries pledged 2.4 billion dollars in aid for 2022 in a virtual meeting to provide humanitarian aid to Afghanistan. OCHA has called for the continuation of the assistance of the international community to prevent the humanitarian crisis and to deal with the victims of natural disasters in the country.
